The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is a world-leading youth development programme which empowers young people with essential skills for life and work. To achieve a Silver Award, young people aged 14–24 design their own programme of challenges and set personal goals, gaining valuable experiences in environments outside of the school and home. They volunteer in their communities, get active to support their wellbeing, learn new skills to build focus and commitment, and complete expeditions that develop teamwork and leadership. It usually takes at least 12 months to complete and is a step up in challenge and commitment. \n\n- Silver requires participants to set and achieve personal goals in four categories: volunteering to support their community, improving their physical and mental wellbeing, developing a skill and completing an expedition with a team of their peers. \n\n- Participants commit to at least an hour a week for each activity, demonstrating dedication and persistence over time to complete their goals. \n\n- For the Expedition section, participants plan, train for and complete a three-day, two-night team challenge with their peers.
